More thoughts on recruiting a Drupal/PHP Developer
March 30, 2009

So, my Drupal/PHP Developer job has been posted for about a week and I’m getting lots of offers from firms who have people who can help me implement Drupal. Unfortunately, I need an individual – it’s complicated to use a firm. In addition, we need an individual who is committed to several years minimum of work developing our sites, platforms, etc. Translation: they need to be interested in what we do in my organisation and want something stable for a few years. This seems like a hard sell in the Drupal developer world at the moment.
All of the individual CVs I’ve received have come with the question: “Are you open to telecommuting?” Translation: I’m not coming to you! A bit frustrating but not discouraged yet. All of this has me wondering just how far Drupal has come with version 6, the version we plan to install? Do I really need a full-time developer? Or, with a really good part-time PHP person and some open-minded system administrators could I pull off migrating over 70 multilingual websites into Drupal intact and ready to be managed? If anyone knows the answer to this question, please leave a comment!
